HAGLUNDS HEEL BUMPS Haglund's bump is a condition where a firm fibro-fatty swelling develops over the posterior (back) aspect of the heel at the area of the insertion of the Achilles tendon. These are caused by the heel constantly rubbing with the back of the shoe and in most cases there are no symptoms, however, occasionally these bumps can become inflamed and painful. Treatment of this condition is usually not required but should the area become inflamed or painful, cold compressions such as ice packs can be used. In cases where the condition becomes chronic, topical and oral anti-inflammatory medications can be used in combination with a Supportive heel protector.
